Hello! My name is Amanda Hemingway. I am the owner and creator of House of Hemingway. What started as a huge passion for interior design has now become my life. As a young girl, I would always design my room, and had to have decor, pillows, and a theme. After getting married,
my husband, Brad, and I bought our first home. The year was 2009, and the housing market just took a tank. The first time homebuyers incentive was unleashed, and the battle for a home was ON! After being outbid on 11 different homes, Brad and I finally had our offer accepted. It was a brand new modest bi-level home with 1,000 square feet. It featured 2 bedrooms, 1 full bath, kitchen and living room.
Although the home was new, I inherently wanted to change so many things. Everything was builder-grade, and my instinct for design took over with full-force! It started with a modest kitchen sink swap,
and ended with with me installing tile for the first time ever,
painting every single wall, painting my doors black (12 years ago! before it was cool)
....and adding wainscoting to multiple walls, including the mudroom area shown below.

thought I'd ever publish photos from our 1st house on the internet.
The basement was by far the largest project we tackled. With the help of Brad's late grandfather, we framed, did electrical, HVAC, hung drywall, doors and trim, and painted everything! We had our walls professionally mudded and paid for a tile shower, and the carpet install.
We learned so many skills while
working on that house. We weren't afraid to jump right in and tackle project after project. Now after 12 years of renovating our homes and sharing a little on social media, I have finally given life to this blog. I can't wait to share tips, tricks, how-to's, current projects, future projects, ideas and real estate investing with you all!
This is how our journey began, but we are from from being finished. Now that I've officially commited myself to growing this little corner of the web, I will share so many tid-bits with you all!
